About HBRFF

HBRFF is a rapidly growing festival dedicated to promoting the best of Brazilian cinema. The festival separates itself from other film festivals by bringing together prominent figures of Brazilian cinema for screenings in Los Angeles, featuring films that have stood out at major international festivals, such as Cannes, Sundance, TIFF, and Venice.

The festival, which is establishing itself as one of the main showcases in the United States for internationally awarded Brazilian filmmakers, screened throughout the years films like I’m Still Here by Walter Salles, Pictures of Ghosts by Kleber Mendonça, Mars One by Gabriel Martins, the Sundance favorite Malu, directed by Pedro Freire, winner of the Paradiso Award at the São Paulo International Film Festival and Best Film at the Rio Film Festival alongside Baby; and Baby, directed by Marcelo Caetano, a film that earned actor Ricardo Teodoro the Best New Actor award at the Cannes Critics’ Week; Motel Destination, directed by Karim Aïnouz, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or and Queer Palm at Cannes. The curation was handled by Filmes de Plástico partner Thiago Macêdo Correia, who now joins HBRFF as Creative Director, alongside Talize Sayegh, founder and Executive Director and Juliana Sakae, Executive Producer.
